Stanford Sociology is home to a rich research environment

Our faculty and students are involved in a wide range of research projects and are affiliated with several research centers and programs throughout campus.

In addition, our department houses the Stanford Ethnography Lab and the Laboratory for Social Research

Faculty co-lead several graduate workshops centered on multiple research areas, and we offer several opportunities for undergraduates to gain research experience with faculty.

We also host postdoctoral scholars and visitors.

Sociologists are typically motivated both by the desire to better understand the fundamental principles of social life as well as by the conviction that an understanding of these principles may aid in the formulation of more enlightened and effective social policy.
