Postdoctoral Scholars and Visitors

The Department of Sociology is an exciting, diverse, and brilliant academic research community with scholars from around the world.

Appointment Types:

The Department of Sociology hosts three types of visitors: a visiting scholar, a visiting student researcher, and a postdoctoral scholar.

VS: Visiting Scholar – A Visiting Scholar is a recognized expert in their field. To become a visiting scholar, a Stanford faculty member must submit a formal request to host the scholar.

VSR: Visiting Student Researcher - A VSR is a student who has not yet obtained a Ph.D. (or its foreign equivalent), is not a recognized expert in their field, and are invited to work with a Sociology faculty member on mutually beneficial projects.  To initiate the appointment process, a Sociology faculty member should submit the Sociology visitor request form from this webpage.   **Students can be appointed on a monthly basis.
