Sociogenomics: Some recent history and a novel approach for examining GxE

Many longitudinal studies have added genetic data on their participants. What opportunities do these data offer? What problems are associated with these data? I will attempt to give a quick survey of my current thinking on these two questions especially as they intersect with long-standing issues of concern in social science. The inclusion of such data in these longitudinal studies is already leading to a great deal of gene-environment interaction research. However, we argue that the promise of this research will be undermined if additional rigor is not built into the analytic designs used in such studies. To that end, I discuss a novel method for examining GxE that focuses on the problem of environmentally-linked heteroscedasticity.
