Why I majored in Sociology? Sociology aligns with my values of critical thinking, openness, and curiosity. This department has encouraged me to always dig deeper and interrogate the foregone conclusions that legitimize harm in our world. After all, we cannot conceptualize new systems that work for everyone if we do not…

My favorite Sociology class: SOC 4: The Sociology of Music with Forrest Stuart (incredible prof, fun ethnography assignments, AND it counts for WAYS-AII?!)

My post-Stanford plans:  I am exploring social policymaking, classroom teaching, independent media/broadcasting, and museum education careers. Moral identity is super fascinating to me, so I would love to study developmental psychology and virtue ethics in grad school. Long-term, I have always dreamed of pursuing music journalism and opening a record shop!

Area of study: Double Major — Sociology BA Traditional Track and Economics

Why I majored in Sociology? I’ve always been curious about how different social contexts and institutions affect individuals and their communities. Sociology’s blend of qualitative and quantitative analysis helps me analyze both data and the bigger narratives behind critical societal issues. As an immigrant myself…

My favorite Sociology class:  SOC4: The Sociology of Music by Professor Stuart. As a musician growing up and a music consumer, the course was eye-opening. From Bourdieu’s theory of habitus to the idea of authenticity as a social construct, these theories helped me reflect on the wider culture and entertainment industry in a new way that still impacts me today.

My post-Stanford plans: I hope to explore career paths that combine my interest in formal organizations and business strategy with a focus on sustainability. I want to continue using what I’ve learned in Sociology to address critical issues faced by our communities in both for-profit and non-profit contexts.
