Graduation checklist

Applying to graduate 

• To start the graduation process, students must complete the online application to graduate.  
• The spring quarter degree conferral application will open in Axess on March 5, 2026.
• The deadline to apply to graduate is April 10, 2026 (5 p.m.)
• Late applications to graduate spring quarter will be accepted ($50 fee) until May 29, 2026 (5 p.m.).

Can I walk? 

• University Commencement ceremony: Check to see if you can walk at the ceremony.
• Department graduation ceremony: Students who wish to participate in the department graduation ceremony, but will NOT have their degree conferred in spring quarter, please submit your completed walkthrough petition (download for fillable form) by May 1, 2026.  

Regalia

• Commencement regalia: The Stanford Bookstore offers rental gowns and hoods (caps will be purchased by the graduates), along with other Commencement items.  
• Hood color for sociology doctoral graduates: Consult Stanford Bookstore
• Hood color for sociology master's graduates: Consult Stanford Bookstore
