Matt Clair receives William Julius Wilson early career award

Associate Professor Matt Clair has been awarded the William Julius Wilson Early Career Award, recognizing his outstanding scholarship and significant contributions to the study of inequality, poverty, and social mobility.

The award honors early-career scholars whose research demonstrates exceptional promise and impact in the field. In announcing this year’s recipients, the committee stated:

“These awards recognize outstanding scholarship and contributions to the field. The accomplishments represented by this year’s awardees reflect the depth, rigor, and continuing vitality of our community of scholars on inequality, poverty, and social mobility.”

Professor Clair’s work has been recognized for advancing sociological understanding of inequality and the institutions that shape life chances, particularly within the domains of law and criminal justice. 

The award is conferred by the Inequality, Poverty, and Mobility Section of the American Sociological Association and will be presented to Clair at the Association’s annual meeting in August in New York City.
