Forrest Stuart receives ASA Peterson-Krivo mentoring award

Professor Forrest Stuart has been awarded the Peterson-Krivo Mentoring Prize, presented jointly by the Crime, Law, and Deviance Section and the Sociology of Law Section of the American Sociological Association (ASA).

The award recognizes sociologists who demonstrate outstanding, sustained, and innovative mentorship. It honors scholars who help students and early-career professionals thrive in the fields of criminology, law, and deviance.

In announcing the award, the selection committee praised Stuart for "the extraordinary depth, consistency, and generosity of his mentorship" and for creating "institutionalized space for mentorship."

Stuart regularly co-authors publications with students in ways that advance their independent research agendas. His students also publish solo-authored work in leading sociology and criminology journals and go on to successful early careers.

Stuart is the director of the Stanford Ethnography Lab, and the faculty director of the Program on Urban Studies (on sabbatical academic year 2026-27).
