Credit scores can affect every aspect of a person's life, such as interest rates on a mortgage or the APR on a credit card. But the three-digit rating isn't always an accurate reflection of a person's financial responsibility, says Assistant Professor Barbara Kiviat. She explains that while credit scores are meant to predict whether or not someone will default on a loan, these scores don’t reflect why someone has defaulted.
