Your favorite class/professor (and why): SOC 180B, Introduction to Data Analysis, has been one of many (emphasis on many!) of my favorite classes. SOC 180B may sound funny as a favorite class, given that it is an introductory class, but the reason it stood out for me was because I left the class feeling empowered. I began seeing trends in data, understanding the trends, then using them to understand the world around me. Things have started to make a little more sense!
Favorite book (and why): My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante. It is a four-part series which follows the lives of two female best friends from childhood to old age. The story is told with the backdrop of political unrest in a low-income neighborhood on the outskirts of Naples. Very early on in the narrative, you, the reader, become trapped in their world: the violence, the love, the pain, the politics, and most importantly: the friendship.
Your career goals and future plans: I've fallen in love with Sociology and I don't think I could ever do anything else! I hope to go on to complete my Masters, PhD, and whatever lies beyond. I strongly believe in bringing Sociological research and practice together, and hope to continue working on projects during my education which tackle real world issues and recommend real world solutions.
